KickInTheBeat, formerly known as Dragnet, is a native of Dallas (Oak Cliff), Texas. His love for music developed at a young age. When he was in elementary school, he played the violin as well as being in his church choir. In high school, Kick began freestyling in the morning and in between classes to pass time. When he graduated, he joined the Navy and began working on his first mixtape, "The Dragnet Revisions". The quality was poor so he gave it away by going to various malls in Dallas, Irving and Arlington, Texas to build his buzz. In 2005, he hooked up with Nu Age producer HumpDizzle and started working on his first real musical effort, "Hooks & Verses". Kick followed up "Hooks & Verses" by teaming up with Fame of G-Side Entertainment and creating "Hooks & Verses 2: For Da Love of Money". When he returned home from the military, he began working on his debut album. Fueled by the single "Wet, Wet", his fan base in Virginia were asking for an all original project. With the mentorship of Big Sid of Playaz Choice Entertainment, Kick took the right steps to creating his first solo album by himself. When he had a full finished product, he began approaching labels to see if they would add him to their roster so that he could have a bigger audience to offer his album to. Everyone declined. Motivated to show everyone what they were missing out on, Kick created Ak Ryte Entertainment and dropped his very first album on February 12, 2008 for his Virginia fans. Ready to begin anew in Texas and build up his buzz there, he began to drop a number of mixtapes. In 2010, he dropped two EPs - "I Tell Tha Truth" and "Dragnet's Block" - in preparation for his sophomore album. When his hard drive crashed with all his new music on it, Kick was very discouraged. He hung up his cap on doing music full time and focused on finishing college and getting his degree. In the early part of 2017, his friend and producer Lil Pooh was murdered in cold blood. Lil Pooh was just beginning to come into his own with his music. Motivated by his friend's energy, Kick decided to change his name from Dragnet in order to rebrand himself and return to doing music once more. Now he is back working on his first project since 2011 and reving up to finally start working on his sophomore album again.
